We were two families visiting from the Netherlands and US with five children from ages nine to 16, all well-behaved international travelers. We were the only ones on the grounds at the time and the staff literally followed us everywhere on the grounds, inside and out, tailing us as if we were common criminals. Since there is no way they could do this with a normal population of visitors we can only conclude that we were given "special" treatment. We have found the Spanish people to be wonderfully polite and welcoming - but not the Fundacion Selgas Falgade, unfortunately.

El Palacio es un lugar precioso con sus jardines únicos solo abierto cada dos años

Visited the Palace and gardens today..my second visit. Firstly the weather was glorious, a rare and welcome event on the Green Coast! Secondly you can walk around without being herded and chivvied by a bossy guide. We didn't hire the audio guide and to be honest you don't need it.

The gardens are very pretty and on a hot summer's day, it was a very pleasant walk.

The furniture is not spectacular, nor are the oils. There are only two decent oils. A portrait by Goya and a 'miniature' by El Greco . (Which is very rare, apart from being an El Greco).

'Hannibal Crossing the Alps". It is on loan to the Prado museum in Madrid, and in return a selection of paintings are sent for a short exhibition to the Palace every now and then. I was lucky enough to see it...it is incredible. .. all bright pink and blue and with elephants!

Según internet el palacio está abierto para visitar pero las indicaciones son incorrectas. Este verano se encuentra cerrado al público. En la web deberían indicarlo para no hacer el viaje en balde.

To his astonishment the missing painting was there..hung on the walls of the 'smallest upstairs room' in the house.

There was another Goya...the famous missing painting from his Italian trip, where he went to take part in a competition, the prize being money which he desperately needed. He came second and no one knew what had happened to the painting. When an art expert from the El Prado museum was invited to the Palace to assess the paintings, all dross and copies to be honest, he asked to visit the loo (toilet/bathroom).

There is also a tapestry exhibition and an exhibition of the materials supplied by the Selgas family for the school they set up for the local children. The school building now houses the state run secondary school.
